Nehru, a key leader of the freedom struggle and India’s prime minister from 1947 until his death on May 27, 1964, was instrumental in building democratic institutions, pursuing a non-aligned foreign policy, and laying the foundation for industrial and scientific growth.
May 27 is observed annually as Nehru’s death anniversary. He is remembered for his focus on education, modernisation, and the principle of secular governance that continues to shape public discourse in India.
